Payroll Manager

Our large/reputable client located in Mississauga is one of Canada’s most recognizable brands.  They are looking to add a strong leader (Payroll Manager) to their team.

As the Payroll Manager will provide payroll services to company and ensure timely review of attendance capture, compensation and rewards payments to unionized and non-unionized employees in Canada.

As the Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing and mentoring direct reports (Unionized and  Non-Unionized Direct Reports)

  • Acting as a resource to all employees and managers with regard to payroll inquiries

  • Leading Payroll Project Implementation

  • Understanding payroll processes and payroll systems, approving payrolls and cheque requisitions for payroll payments to the government and other vendors, and managing escalated payroll issues for employees in a timely manner

  • Ensuring compliancy with Payroll Legislation

  • Monitoring SOX and MICS controls are in place to ensure compliance

  • Reconciling all payroll balance sheet accounts with action plans to address all reconciled variances

  • Preparing T4's and assisting with tax advisors and external vendors to ensure accurate information is reported to various government agencies

  • Preparing income statements for Executive payroll (Inpat/Expats), process the executive payroll and address all payroll and tax related inquiries for Executives (Inpat/Expats). Prepare Journal entries at month end and provide inter-company charges to accounting as required

  • Overseeing all aspects of the payroll process, compiling and generating ad hoc reports, reconciliation of Payroll to Bank, etc.

As the Payroll Manager, you will have:

  • University Degree and Payroll Manager Certification or equivalent

  • Bilingual French and English (both written and spoken)

  • 5 Years of payroll experience (Canadian Payrolls, including Quebec). Experience working in a payroll outsourced business process environment, an asset

  •  Experience managing direct reports

  • Experience running multiple payrolls in a decentralized payroll environment

  •  Strong analytical skills

  • Solid communication, skills (both written and verbal)

  • Ability to multitask and manage priorities

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong Interpersonal skills

  • Excel, PowerPoint

  • Experience using Payroll and HR information system

  • 3rd Party web based applications as required
